In a normal healthy person when the immune system goes into action to attack foreign cells which can often lead to an inflamed part of the body. Once the body’s immune system has finished the inflammation will go down unless you suffer from Sarcoidosis. This is a disease where the cells cluster together turning into granulomas which then cause problems in whatever organ it is in.
The outcome of this disease varies but these days most recover from the disease with no major long term problems. The treatments have helped many to get into remission for 3 years while others make it as long as 10 years in remission. Many will have a relapse in the first year but most will recover from Sarcoidosis with little problems. Some do have problems especially if they do not get treatment so like any disease the sooner you get treatment the better. The location in the body will also affect how well people respond to treatment and how many problems they have.
So if you know someone who has Sarcoidosis or you have the symptoms you then do not fret. It is an illness that can be treated and many people will recover to get on with their lives with no long lasting problems. Research into a cure and better treatments for Sarcoidosis is ongoing.
